The Lomography Gallery Store-Complete!
—————————————————————-
After the hectic adventures of the holidays, and all the busy-ness that comes with it, I was finally able to make a trip to The Lomography Gallery Store in Austin with my best friend Melissa. As some of you may know, we wrote an article about the craft in the last issue of Glim, and if felt due for a visit to the completed store.
The store is located on 912 Congress Avenue, just a couple of blocks away from the Capitol. Upon entering the store, you are greeted with a minimalist look, which is quite impressive considering the small amount of space they are dealing with. The LGSA managed to pack a lot of informative details about all of their products within the confines of the space, giving examples of what each camera does, camera manuals for a potential customer to look at, and a camera itself that is not attached to any wires so anyone can pick the camera up and try out the viewfinder and shutter.
After playing with a bunch of cameras, I purchased one for Melissa (which ended up being a pre-engagement/christmas/thank you for being an awesome friend present). It was a pretty slick looking all-white Diana F+ mini, flash included. I provided her with an old roll of Fuji Astia, and sent her on her way.
If you are a visitor of Austin, I highly suggest visiting the store before you walk to the Capitol. You might be inspired to purchase a camera, and then use it right away as you tour the rose-colored building. If you live in Austin, consider the workshops that they host on a weekly basis. In fact, LGSA is hosting a FREE workshop tomorrow, Saturday January 7th from 12-2pm on the Diana F+. They advise showing up 10 minutes early. Each workshop includes an instructional lecture, a loaner camera, and one free roll of film.
Future stores will be opening up in Dallas and Houston, and there are already a couple in NY and various other places. Fore more info on all that jazz, visit their website.
